A Reminder About Motivation
In adult education, we spend a lot of time talking about motivation. It’s the engine behind engagement, persistence, and completion. Most of the time, motivation comes from familiar drivers:
Starting a new career
Progressing in an existing role
Increasing earning potential
Professional development
Usually, it’s a mix of all of these.
But every now and then, someone comes along with a different kind of motivation that might be more personal or powerful.
Meet Mel
One of our latest TAE graduates, Mel, reminded us of the true strength of resilience. Mel didn’t just show up to complete a course, she showed up with a purpose and consistently demonstrated:
Resilience in the face of challenges
Leadership within her peer group
A willingness to step up and have a go
Genuine support for other students
She didn’t just focus on her own progress, she lifted the people around her, and it’s exactly what great educators do.
You’re Allowed to Be Motivated by Anything
There’s a tendency to frame motivation in neat, professional terms such as career, money or progression. But the reality is simpler; you’re allowed to be motivated by whatever matters to you.
For some, that motivation comes from within. For others, it comes from people around them — family, colleagues, or a bigger purpose. And sometimes, that kind of motivation is the strongest of all.
The Kind of Educator That Makes a Difference
Mel embodies the qualities we strive to develop in every graduate:
Capability
Empathy
Leadership
Commitment to others
We have no doubt that she will make an exceptional educator in the childcare sector, where these qualities matter most.
At AITT, we don’t just measure success by completions. We measure it by the impact our graduates will have on others. Mel is a perfect example of that. And if there’s one takeaway from her journey, it’s that resilience, combined with purpose, creates educators who change lives.
If you’re thinking about starting your own journey — do it for whatever drives you. And if you’re struggling to find that motivation, or you’ve found yourself on a learning pathway that wasn’t your first choice, recognise that awareness itself is powerful. It gives you a starting point to reframe your mindset and take control of how you move forward.
