Description of Qualification

Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) qualifications prepare learners to work with children from birth to six years of age in regulated early learning environments. These qualifications focus on supporting children’s wellbeing, learning and development through play-based experiences, safe routines, and inclusive practices.

The CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care is the minimum qualification required to work in childcare services across Australia. This qualification prepares learners to support children’s wellbeing, learning, and development in early years settings. It provides strong foundations for those starting their career or returning to the workforce.

Both qualifications include real workplace experience to ensure graduates are confident, job-ready, and able to meet National Quality Framework (NQF) requirements.

At minimum, you must have a suitable level of English and numeracy (at least Year 10 English, or equivalent) you should be currently enrolled in (or have completed) a secondary level Year 11 or equivalent.
AITT identifies students who require additional support prior to enrolment by having them complete self-assessment questions on their enrolment application. After enrolment, prior to beginning their course, AITT collects and evaluates the candidates’ Language, Literacy and Numeracy skills by having them complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy evaluation. This information is then used to determine the level of support the individual candidate requires. You must have basic digital literacy skills, including the ability to send and receive emails, use word-processing programs, manage files, browse the internet, join online meetings, and use presentation software such as PowerPoint. Where learning difficulties are identified, these will be discussed with the student either prior to course commencement or during the course duration. Vocational competence is defined as broad industry knowledge and experience, and may include, but is not limited to, holding a relevant unit of competency or qualification in the area you wish to train and assess in. Each student may be required to undertake an eligibility assessment process to determine their existing vocational competency. The eligibility assessment process will require students to supply copies of their resume along with verified copies of qualifications showing their vocational competencies as a trainer / assessor in their chosen industry. This will be followed by an interview with an AITT Trainer / Assessor (Ref: Training and Assessment Staff below) to determine the level of prior competency. All students enrolling with AITT undertake a pre-enrolment and LLN assessment. If it is determined that assistance is required, AITT can offer advice of alternate learning pathways or refer students to other support, which may include an LLN specialist that will assist them to undertake the relevant qualification of study.
To enrol in this qualification, you must be an Australian Permanent Resident or Australian Citizen. Failure to declare an accurate residential status during enrolment may result in your enrolment being revoked and no award being issued.

You may be required to produce a  valid identification document that includes your picture and signature for authenticity purposes.

This assessment is designed to identify any support you might need in key areas such as learning, reading, writing, oral communication, and numeracy, ensuring that tailored assistance is available to enhance your core skills.

Please note that all participants applying for government funded training may be required to sit an LLN assessment regardless of qualifications or experience held.
